Popular East Cork hotel reopens after two and a half years

A popular hotel in East Cork has reopened to the delight of locals.

The Quality Hotel in Redbarn, Youghal welcomed guests on Wednesday after nearly two and a half years of closure.

And a lot has changed since they closed in 2019, from new staff to brand new equipment for the area, and much more.

Speaking about exciting new additions to the hotel, a spokesperson said: ‘The walk to Youghal has been of tremendous benefit to guests and locals alike and a Hot Spot wood fired sauna now operates on the lower terrace for those who need to warm up after a dip in the cold sea!

The Redbarn team is thrilled to be back!

“The Redbarn Food Store on the Sun Terrace will be up and running again with new additions, such as the Sea Breeze Patio Bar, which serves cold draft beers and other refreshments.

“A new and well-known ‘food-to-go’ truck from Imokilly will also serve delicious bites outside the hotel, and your favorites, Pizza Tosca and La Crêperie pop-up will continue to serve delicious pizzas, pancakes and waffles on the Patio for that special holiday treat!”

Allen McEnery, owner of the Redbarn spot, said they were very lucky to have their self-catering apartments in operation while they were closed, but nothing beats the feeling of having guests around.

“We opened and closed one day in 2020. It was March 13.” McEnery said.

“It’s been two and a half years since we closed for the winter after the Halloween break in 2019.”

Allen went on to say, “We’ve been lucky enough to have our self-contained accommodation available for the past two summer seasons and it’s helped us stay afloat.

“People felt safer having their own front door, rather than staying in a hotel – and the wide open spaces of Redbarn Beach were ideal for a sheltered family break.

“However, people missed the fun, food service and social interaction of the hotel amenities. We are so happy to be back up and running!”

The guys at Redbarn have welcomed new Chef, Valdemar Guerreiro, and Sous Chef, Tiago Figueiredo, both from the Algarve, who will bring new flavors and signature dishes to Redbarn.

There was a real enthusiasm among the staff, new and old, on site in anticipation of a restart.
