A new system from Chelsom • Hotel Designs

After the launch of Edition 27 (and the highly anticipated launch of its next collection), by Chelsom The latest offering is a Decorative Touchless Switching System (DTS) that it offers as a custom accessory to integrate into one of its standard or bespoke lighting products.

Most likely used in a table lamp or wall sconce application, the innovative system was developed in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic as the hospitality and marine sectors have constantly sought to reduce contact points in hotels and cruise ships. As with many things Chelsom does in product design, the DTS system merges the latest technology with striking aesthetics so that function and beauty can co-exist.

“We are fully aware that there is a demand in the market for products that can help minimize the spread of bacteria and viruses, including Covid-19,” said Will Chelsom, Managing Director of Chelsom. “While this switching solution will never fully stop the future spread of such things, it will significantly reduce touchpoints in places such as hotel rooms and cruise ship cabins, where regular switching of the light can cause multiple touch points in a room.We wanted to take touchless technology a step further by making it beautiful and practical so that interior designers can be excited about using the one point system. aesthetically.

We are not talking about the rise of the ‘clapper’ here. DTS technology includes a decorative infrared sensor to detect a human hand and trigger the switch. A hand simply needs to pass over the sensor from a distance of 5cm and the switch activates to turn the light source on and off. The switch can be mounted in a table or desk lamp base, as well as in the backplate of a wall sconce or reading lamp. DTS technology can operate over a wide voltage range, from 100 to 240 VAC, and is fully compatible with conventional and LED light sources, making it a suitable switching solution for all global markets and designs of products.

A knurled metal collar wraps around the sensor and can be plated or powder coated in a range of finishes to include brushed brass, black bronze, antique brass, brushed nickel, satin black and many more. The decorative nature of this switch sets it apart from anything else on the market and gives lighting designers and interior designers the ability to combine practical and aesthetic product design needs.
